Intended use
The Rapid Marijuana Test is a rapid and qualitative test for the detection of Tetrahydrocannibinol (THC) metabolites in saliva. The test provides a fast (5 minutes) confirmation of the presence of THC in the subject sample at a minimum cutoff sensitivity level of 12 ng/ml THC.
What is Marijuana ?
Marijuana, cannabis or tetra-hydro-cannabinol (THC) is a hallucinogenic agent derived from the flowering portion of the hemp plant. Smoking is the primary method of use of marijuana/cannabis. Higher doses used by abusers produce central nervous system effects, altered mood and sensory perceptions, loss of co-ordination, impaired short-term memory, anxiety, paranoia, depression, confusion, hallucinations and increased heart rate. A tolerance to the cardiac and psychotropic effects can occur, and withdrawal syndrome produces restlessness, insomnia, anorexia and nausea.
How long after use can drug tests detect marijuana presence or use ?
Drug of abuse testing by blood, urine, saliva or any other method (except forensic hair analysis) is designed only to detect whether or not a specific drug or drug metabolite is present at the time the test is performed. While there are very broad estimates as to how long a particular drug may have been in the system, no drug test, regardless of method, is intended to include a time variable. Many factors unique to the individual being tested determine the actual half-life of the particular drug including such variables as age, weight, body fat index, sex, metabolic rate, overall health and amount of drug consumed over what period of time.
For marijuana the minimum detection time in saliva is usually 1 hour and the maximum detection time is 72 hours.
